In the Roadtrip Series, I recapture memories from places I have visited that evoked strong emotions in me. When I work on the Roadtrip Series, I never use photos. I do not think of a particular place, one that I can name at least. I feel a memory and I paint. I put paint on a panel and see where it takes me
beneath a towering cliff with a thunderhead building in the distance or on an empty stretch of shoreline where I felt like the first person on the planet. When I have finished a painting, I often experience déjà vu. I remember the locality and the mysterious landscape that lodged in my memory. Sometimes I cannot retrieve the conscience memory of the place at all, and am left only with the mood and landscape.
